Matt Watson's journey from a young fisherman with a dream to a household name has been one epic adventure. The 20th anniversary of The ITM Fishing Show is a testament to his passion for fishing and his knack for sharing the excitement.
If there's one Kiwi who was born to fish, it's Matt Watson. From a young age, he dreamt of becoming a commercial fisherman, learning the trade tricks from his uncles. However, life threw him a curveball when a disagreement with one of those uncles made things awkward. Yet, that didn't dampen his spirits. Matt took a job as a roofer and stuck to fishing whenever he could.
Matt's passion for fishing refused to take a back seat. His vision went beyond casting lines and reeling in fish. He wanted to create a fishing TV show that he'd enjoy watching. In 2001, Matt and a buddy entered a fishing video competition hosted by the New Zealand sports TV show SportsCafe and won! This encouraged him to make more videos resulting in Matt creating a TV show pilot in 2003. This marked the beginning of "The Fishing Show," which later became "The ITM Fishing Show" in 2005. They've come a long way since, with hundreds of episodes and millions of views under their belts, becoming a must-watch for fishing enthusiasts.
To celebrate 20 years, they're rolling out "In Too Deep," a documentary on what's happened behind the scenes during the past two decades. It's the ultimate sneak peek for fans. You can catch "In Too Deep" on Three Now and the 20th season of The ITM Fishing Show on Three every Saturday at 7pm.
When the new season starts, they are also launching a revamped Ultimate Fishing TV website and UFTV App, promising a smoother and more exciting viewing experience.
